OVERVIEW
Brahms Ein deutsches
Requiem (A German Requiem) is set for SATB and
solo's.
The training aids have an orchestral style
accompaniment with the voice part highlighted with piano. The remaining parts are
quieter on guitar as required.
As the work is mostly choral and in the interest
of continuity, the whole work is provided, including the soloist sections.
(Which may be of help to soloists, and for this we recommend the Accompaniment
Recording BGR06)
Although the work
is essentially SATB there is the very occasional 2nd part for a particular
voice, this occurs so few times that (for this work) it does not warrant
a separate track. When this occurs both notes have been played. In most cases
the choice of note is an octave apart.
Brahms
intentionally structured this work outside the traditionally accepted form for
requiems.
The movements in this work are:
1
Selig sind, die da
Leid tragen Blessed are they that mourn
2
Denn alles Fleisch,
es ist wie Gras Behold, all flesh is as the grass
3
Herr, lehre doch
mich, Lord, let me know mine end
4
Wie lieblich sind
deine Wohnungen How lovely are Thy dwellings
5
Ihr habt nun
Traurigkeit Ye now have sorrow
6
Denn wir haben hie
keine bleibende Statt For we have here no abiding city
7
Selig sind die Toten
die im dem Herren sterben Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord
