Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Answers
Note Perfect is committed to providing resources for musicians and choirs. The Training aids take considerable time to prepare, and when complete we offer these to individuals and choirs at an affordable price. We know that a massive amount of time can be consumed learning the notes, of a particular work, but by continual listening to the notes, learning them in advance, you can prepare yourself or your choir to sing a part competently from the very start; rehearsal time can effectively be better utilised for working on dynamics and presentation.
How long will it take to process/receive my order?
This depends on the method of purchase.
All orders processed through PayPal are usually reviewed and processed during the same business day that they are received and posted the following day.
Echeque orders received through PayPal will be processed the same way except they will be posted when the Echeque is cleared.Orders through Western Union and e-gold will be processed on receipt of the transaction.
Orders by post with a cheque enclosed are processed the day they are received and posted the day the cheque is cleared.
Similarly so with Credit Transfer, if we are notified that a credit transfer from your Bank to ours is to take place we process the order. We watch the Bank account and as soon as the account is credited we post the order.
Orders are generally sent by post. The Australian Post Office claim that anything posted in Australia is usually delivered around the world in 4 to 14 days. It is our experience that an order processed through PayPal is often delivered in about 5 to 8 days from posting.NB. The Australian Post Office does not have any service quicker than Air Mail. And there is no cost effective tracking service available for international shipping (If anyone does find one please let us know) We have researched other courier companies and there are none that will do a fast service for less than $42.00AUS and they still have 4 business days minimum to international destinations.
If you require delivery by any other transport company, it can be investigated, but the cost effectiveness of the extra charges will probably not be justifiable.
How we handle postal delay problems.
For the most part, the postage system runs smoothly as described by the respective postal services; there are always a small number of cases where the service does not deliver as expected. It should be noted however, that once we have posted goods, they are at the mercy of the postal services and we cannot bear any responsibility for their operation (or lack thereof). Note Perfect operates business days Monday to Friday, all orders are processed in a timely manner no greater than a 24 hour period (within the business week structure). When you receive an email from us declaring that we have posted your order, the email is always sent AFTER we have posted the item.We do however feel that we operate responsibly and are concerned about any delay or non-delivery and if after 18 days you have not received your order, please let us know and we will post again. This is our operation policy, and we operate this on trust. If you receive both packages then we ask that the 2nd is marked return to sender, unopened.
It should be understood that postal delays while irritating are not a reflection on our good service. If it gets to a stage that we have to send item(s) a second time the client is required to provide us confirmation that the address that we sent to is correct, and if they want provide an alternative address. When we send goods a second time we pay extra postage charges for insurance and this will require a receipt signatory, so the client will need to provide an address where a signature can be obtained. Should there be a problem after that, any resolve will be after the insurance claim is closed which can take several months. We hope however that it would never go that far.
Internationally we always send by airmail, however we understand that once the item is received into a country by airmail, how that country's postal service delivers the item is up to them. For example when we send to Alaska, the item first of all arrives at the USA mainland by air. The US postal services may then deem to send the item to Alaska by ship or rail and is out of our hands. We have experienced delays every time we have sent to Alaska, and we do not consider that the US postal service is acting fairly when we pay to have the item shipped by air.
How do I download the sample music?
The easiest answer is by using LeftClick or RightClick with your mouse on the download links.
Points to remember. The files you download are WMA (Windows Media Audio) files, they are not Midi files. The WMA files on the site start in size from just over half a megabyte to about 5 megabyte. On an ordinary 56k connection the download time will take a few minutes, you need to be patient. WMA Files should be able to be played in most media players that are capable of playing MP3 files. WMA files retain the quality of MP3s but are capable of being smaller in size, allowing for better downloading.
The difference between LeftClick and RightClick.
LeftClick
LeftClicking a link should open a new page in a new browser (frame) depending on how your browser is configured, once the file is downloaded, the file will start to play using your default media player. Some of these will show in the newly opened window, and some will remain blank. Some such as Real Player, will open the window, and then open real player and start to Play. If you have QuickTime installed, this program will determine if you need to have more features installed, install them if you answer yes to the prompt. If all the features are installed, it should start to play fairly quickly, and will continue downloading as it is playing.
RightClick
RightClick is probably the better option. In Internet Explorer, (and most other browsers) A PopUp menu will appear, with one of the options being "Save Target as..." (or words to that effect) select that option. And then you will be prompted to save it at a location you specify on your hard disk. Once the file is downloaded, you will be able to play the file in a program of your choice, such as Windows Media Player, Real One Audio, WinAmp, or some other Multimedia player.
Other options that might appear on the PopUp menu when you use RightClick is one to download through a downloading program such as Download Accelorator, or FlashGet etc.
The advantage of using RightClick when you download is that normally you can tell the status of the download through the program that is downloading it.
NB. These files are always the property of Note Perfect. They are provided for your evaluation of our service. They may not be shared on file sharing networks of be placed on web sites for download. They may not be used for any other purpose than evaluation.
The player can only be seen on windows operating systems, or if you have Windows Media Player installed. Windows Media Player can be downloaded from the Microsoft Web Site.
If I cannot see the player how can I still hear the music samples?
You can still download the sample files by right-clicking the title of the piece to download, and save them to your computer at a location of your choice. You can then play them in a media player. Most media players are able to play WMA files. And if yours doesn't, there are quite a few free players that do. Try finding one at Download.com
Why does Note Perfect provide a licence to copy?
Whilst the cost of a single CD is reasonably priced, we know that if a whole choir has a CD each it could be an unbearable and probably unjustifiable cost. It is for this reason that we allow the original purchaser to duplicate the CD to members of their choir. We have to draw the line at some stage, so we do not allow people to whom the CD has been duplicated to to duplicate further. We consider that this licence is generous and gives scope for a whole choir to have a solution for learning notes from the purchase of a single set of CDs at a reasonable cost.
If you do not have the means for providing duplicates, we can do this at a discount for quantity. Our site has details of some discounts but if you have a combination quantity that you want please feel free to contact us.
What are the Limitations of the Licence?
This answer is divided into 2 sections
You can :-
duplicate CDs to members of your choir and/or organisation on CD or Tape.
recover material costs to cover duplication so long as there is no profit.
make adequate backups of the CD to protect your investment. (By adequate we mean an undefined amount - be reasonable)
You cannot
Copy the CD in Data format (IE. MP3, WAV, WMA etc) or hold it in residence on a hard disk or other means for later retrieval. On no account are the CD tracks to be made available across a file sharing network (public or private).
edit the tracks.
duplicate the CD to any other person, choir or choir director outside your membership. Knowing another choir or choir director does not constitute as being your own choir.
Transfer ownership, either by gift or by any other means. The only way that ownership can be transferred is if it the reason for the original purchase, (IE Birthday or Christmas Present). The intended owner must be stated at the time of transaction, so that the licence can be prepared accordingly. Upon purchase you own the CD for life. The intellectual property remains with Note Perfect.
lend, sell, copy and resell the CD
make profit from the CD or any of the tracks in any way whatsoever.
We will place a licence for permission to copy the CD under its terms inside the coversheet inside each jewel case. You should look after this because if you copy a CD you will need it.
What are the licence rights if I have purchased a quantity of CD's?
The original purchaser is granted the duplication rights, and the licence documentation will be provided in one CD or CD set.
What must I do when I copy a CD?
Because we allow you to copy our work, those to whom you copy must also know and agree to the rules. If you copy a CD under the licence terms, you must provide a legible photocopy or scanned print of the licence with every copy of the CD or Tape that you produce. The recipients need to know that as owner of the original CD only you have the right to copy and not any of the recipients.
Can Note Perfect change the terms of the licence?
Yes we can. However this will apply to CDs sold from the time of the change. Whatever it says on your licence will always apply, you will not need to check the web site for changes. It will always be honoured.
You may request a new copy of the licence because yours is lost, however, new copies will contain the current wording.
Why does Note Perfect spell LICENCE with a "C" and not an "S" as in LICENSE?
Several people have commented on this so we have decided to provide the answer here for anyone who is interested.
"Note Perfect" is Australian based and owned by a British Citizen. Australia uses ENGLISH English , and not AMERICAN English. As such licence is spelt correctly. Throughout our site it is intentionally spelt that way.
The Oxford English Dictionary; (the compact version is seen on line), is arguably THE ultimate authority on English spelling and usage. It spells "licence" concluding in "ce" and in brackets has the United States Spelling "license." See http://www.askoxford.com/concise_oed/licence?view=uk. There is also an entry in the dictionary as "license" which says "ORIGIN from LICENCE; the spelling -se arose by analogy with pairs such as practice, practise." http://www.askoxford.com/concise_oed/license?view=uk, this seems to imply that the "se" conclusion is derived from incorrect usage.
Further Justification: If you view a section of a British government web site, http://www.dvla.gov.uk/faq/faq_licence_holders.htm you will notice that the spelling of "licence" concludes with "ce" as is common, acceptable and correct in English usage, and that the spelling is not confined to antiquity.
What if I would prefer some or all of the music transposed?
We no longer undertake transposition, except for commissions.
What if I want some training tracks for music not in Note Perfect catalogue?
Some of our customers have returned to us asking for further training materials of a particular work. Sometimes it is just one item, and sometimes two or four items. Here at Note Perfect we supply training aids to local choirs and choral ensembles of items not published in our catalogue, mainly because any such publication would be a collection of disjointed or unconnected works.
We have often been able to oblige, either providing from what we already have, or specially creating requested tracks. We cannot promise that we will be able to help you but we will most certainly try. Please contact us with your request. Major works take an incredible amount of time. Our St. John Passion (Bach) took in excess of 6 months virtually solid work comprising in excess of 180 tracks.
There are some things that you will need to understand about specifically requested work.
We need time to ensure that we either have your request or create it.
That when you receive it, any artwork for the CD jewel case and label will be basic.
That you will be purchasing at least one recording for each voice part (i.e.. Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass)
That your request may become part of our catalogue and the price will not necessarily be the price you paid for it.
PayPal's method of calculation is fairly primitive, it does not relate to areas in the world. Note Perfect has tried to be fair in calculating shipping costs through the PayPal system. If we do change the shipping and handling pricing structure we will try to update this page as soon as we can. Shipping and Handling (Packaging etc) is worked out as a percentage of the value of the order, the minimum cost of postage is $6.53, and as the value of the order increases the percentage decreases. Throughout your order, the PayPal shopping cart will display the value of the shipping and handling according to what you have in your cart.
Australian purchases are advised to email first specifying what they intend to order, as reduced rates shipping charges apply.
Can the Accompaniment CD (Or section of a CD) be used to accompany voices?
We would like to think it would be possible to use it to accompany a choir, and some people have bought it with this use in mind, though its primary design is to help train singers to become confident in singing their part, after learning their part with one of the highlighted Sop Alt Ten or Bass parts, but we have tried to make it as "performable" as we can; it is difficult to include the idiosyncrasies of individual music directors so as far as possible we have tried to interpret the written music.
How do I purchase over the net?
Select from our catalogue and click on the "Buy Now" Button.
A new window should open up which will be the shopping cart. The item you have selected will be in the shopping cart.
If you require further items, return to the Note Perfect Catalogue, and select more items in a simlar way. These will be added to the cart.
When you have finished selecting your purchases, check the cart that you have ordered correctly. Check also the quantity of your order. At this stage you can remove items from the cart if you have ordered in error.
Click the checkout button where further details will need to be entered, about yourself and payment options. When you have completed this press the continue button and follow the instructions to the finish.
If you are a first time user of PayPal you will need to follow the procedure for a first time user of PayPal. We have put some information about this in another FAQ
Can I purchase from my local retailer or music shop?
Purchasing Directly from us will keep the cost of the product down. Currently there are no retailers. If retailers wish to stock our product, they would have to sell at a higher price than featured on this site. However selling directly as we do here keeps our prices down.
PayPay is one of the largest credit card processing agencies in the world. It processes payments through totally secure web servers. It also allows for the quickest order processing following payment.
What is the procedure for a first time user of PayPal?
The PayPal Shopping cart will take you to pages to ask you for relevant details to process the order. It will also want to authenticate that you are who you claim to be. Until this is done you cannot process the transaction. They will send you an email to the email address that you gave them together with a membership number which must be processed before you can continue with the transaction. Don't worry, this usually can take place in a matter of minutes.
Will Note Perfect see my Credit Card details?
No. We will at no time ever see your credit card details. The transaction takes place between you and PayPal. Once this takes place it is up to Note Perfect to claim monies from PayPal. Once your money is with PayPay your order will be processed.

Can I pay by any other means other than PayPal?
Yes. Western Union or E-Gold is probably the best alternative:
You can contact us in order to make arrangements. These arrangements will almost certainly result in slower order processing as posting will be done once the transfer is cleared.
Alternatives are:-
A Bank cheque (Preferable) made out in our currency (Australian Dollars).
A cheque in your own currency, a bank processing fee will apply.
A credit transfer from your bank in Australian dollars. (Preferable)
A credit transfer in your currency, a bank processing fee will apply.
Sending cash is not an alternative.
When a cheque or transfer is not in Australian Dollars, a fee of $15.50 US will apply in addition to the Shipping and Processing charge.
We can only accept Credit Cards on-line through PayPal.
NB. As much as we would prefer not to, any alternative method of Payment to PayPal will involve extra fees. PayPal is the most cost effective way of purchasing. All other methods will involve a fee either at our end or at your end (and in some cases both).
I do not live in Australia, is there anything I need to understand?
Some countries have regulations on what can be brought into their country, especially with regard to the value of an item. If you look at the "Where are they now" section of this site, you will see a list of countries and states that we have had absolutely no problem with sending our CDs, so we don't want to be alarmist about this. As the purchaser, you should be aware that there may be some customs regulation by your country that restricts value or quantity and that you should further be aware that Note Perfect are not responsible for any costs that may arise from this.
